A worldwide hit

The Housemaid's Secret is the direct continuation of the 2025 movie The Housemaid, which became a worldwide box office success upon its release last year. The films are adaptations of the bestselling thriller trilogy written by American author Freida McFadden, whose novels have gained a massive global following.

Sweeney, 28, reprises her role as Millie, returning to a character that helped cement her status as a leading cinematic star. The actress is also known for her Emmy nominated television work in HBO's Euphoria and The White Lotus.

Kalyn joins the expanding cast after gaining recognition for his performance as Dean Di Laurentis in the television adaptation of Off Campus. He will act alongside a supporting ensemble that includes Hollywood veterans Kirsten Dunst and Brittany Snow.

The locked door

The sequel adapts the second book in McFadden's saga. The plot once again follows Millie as she takes on a new job working as a domestic employee for a wealthy household.

When she is hired by the new family, Millie is given an unusual condition for her employment: she is told that she can never meet the lady of the house, Wendy Garrick.

Dunst, 44, has been cast as the reclusive Wendy. The Academy Award nominated actress brings decades of experience to the role, having starred in critically acclaimed films such as The Power of the Dog and Melancholia.

Wendy's husband, Douglas Garrick, will be played by 37-year-old actor Paul Anthony Kelly. As Millie settles into the job, the strict rule about avoiding her employer begins to raise her suspicions, eventually leading her to discover what the production describes as a dark reality hidden behind a locked door.

Snow, 40, will portray Marybeth, who is described as an apparently discreet receptionist working at Douglas Garrick's company. The actress is best known for her starring role in the Pitch Perfect musical comedy franchise.
