A man in the United Kingdom tested the battery of his 2022 Tesla Model 3 to see how much it had degraded after 125,000 kilometres, Supercar Blondie reported.
The test aimed to challenge a common myth that electric car batteries wear down heavily over time, similar to mobile phone batteries, a belief the outlet said has discouraged some people from buying EVs.
How the test was done
Matt, who runs the YouTube channel Matt Goes Electric, checked the wear on his car's lithium iron phosphate battery. The car had been in use since March 2022, making it four years and three months old.
He first checked the battery using Tesla's built-in software before deciding to run a full test. Before starting, the battery charge had to be below 20 percent, and the car had to be connected to an AC charging station.
The result
Matt found that after 125,000 kilometres, the battery's health measured 92 percent, and the car retained most of its original range.
