Apple TV has announced that Vince Vaughn will return for a second season of the crime comedy Bad Monkey, with the new run set to premiere on December 2, 2026.
The series, developed by Bill Lawrence, the creator of Ted Lasso and Scrubs, and based on the novel by Carl Hiaasen, debuted in 2024. The show follows Andrew Yancy, a former detective navigating the criminal underworld of South Florida. The first season brought a satirical and absurd tone to the crime genre, capitalising on Vaughn's comedic background.
The ten-episode second season will feature a completely original story. Following the launch episode on December 2, new instalments will be released weekly every Wednesday until February 3, 2027.
The new case begins when Yancy witnesses the murder of Florida's best fixer. An ambitious state prosecutor forces him to work alongside a meticulous forensic accountant to solve the crime.
South Florida turf war
While attempting to earn back his detective badge, Yancy finds himself caught in a turf war between rival criminal organisations. The case takes him through a criminal landscape populated by a sophisticated mafia boss, his unstable son, and a tough young woman who needs his protection.
Natalie Martinez returns as Rosa Campesino, alongside Charlotte Lawrence and John Ortiz. They are joined by new cast members John Malkovich, Yvonne Strahovski, and Zavior Phillips.
The season will also feature a large guest cast, including Nate Jackson, Sofia Boutella, Brent Morin, Joey Avery, Dax Shepard, Sam Jaeger, Margarita Levieva, Peter Billingsley, and June Diane Raphael.
Personal challenges
Alongside the central investigation, Yancy faces ongoing personal problems, including his relationship with his ageing father and unresolved romantic tension with Campesino.
Campesino begins her own parallel investigation after discovering a mysterious rash. Meanwhile, Yancy must deal with an eccentric animal relocation specialist whose business threatens the local ecosystem.
