Disney+ animated series will tell Tiana’s story in New Orleans – and has a new writer
After much speculation, the Walt Disney Pictures is finally prepared to tell another perspective of Tianain The princess and the Frog (2009). The new project marks the studios’ first step in exploring new princess stories.
An animated series about the princess of New Orleans is in development and will be written and directed by Joyce Sherri (Midnight Mass). Previously, the musical series would be directed and written by Stella Meghie (Insecure), according to information from Variety.
The series will be a musical comedy and will show the protagonist assuming her role as a princess, as well as new facets of her iconic hometown. Originally, the series was scheduled to premiere in 2023, but after strikes by writers and actors – still ongoing – the launch should be delayed until 2024.
In addition, a live-action film would also be considered by the studios and Lupita Nyong’oknown for her roles in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) and 12 years of slavery (2013), was being considered to play the protagonist, Tiana (via CBR). But the production remains a mystery.

The princess and the Frog takes place in New Orleans, where a young and beautiful girl named Tiana lives. The character dreams of opening her own restaurant and aims to save as much money as possible to rent the property she always wanted.
After accepting an invitation from her best friend, Charlotte LaBouff, to work at her party, Tiana meets Naveen, who appears in the form of a frog, announcing that he is a prince. To become human again, he asks her to give him a kiss. However, the situation gets complicated when Tiana also ends up turning into a frog after kissing him.
The princess and the Frog is available on Disney+, Disney’s streaming platform.
