Brazilian television presenter Xuxa Meneghel has rejected persistent rumours claiming she secured her fame, money, and success by making a pact with the devil.
The 63-year-old television star addressed the claims in a public response to a fan page, writing that God gave her everything she achieved throughout her career.
The social media post explored how the rumours originally surfaced and spread during the 1980s and 1990s. While noting that the allegations lack any verified origin, the post indicated that the stories first gained traction within certain religious sectors.
To demonstrate the allegations, the page shared archival video footage featuring a pastor who claimed that Meneghel was a satanist and alleged that she had sold her soul to Satan for 100 million dollars.
The profile questioned why society often assumes a woman who attains immense fame and influence must rely on supernatural forces. It noted that critics frequently turn to tales of magic and demonic pacts instead of crediting hard work, talent, and years of professional dedication.
Urban legends and pop culture background
Meneghel became an iconic cultural figure in Brazil during the late 1980s and 1990s as the host of the hit children's television programme Xou da Xuxa. Known to generations of fans as a dominant children's television host, she built an entertainment empire featuring record-breaking album sales, feature films, and international television syndication across Spanish-speaking Latin America and the United States.
Her massive commercial success coincided with a wave of urban legends and moral panics that swept Brazilian pop culture during that period. Rumours frequently targeted mainstream children's entertainers with sensational claims, including baseless allegations of hidden backward messages on vinyl records and cursed merchandise.
Responding directly to the online post, Meneghel questioned why her faith is consistently ignored by those who repeat the claims. In her comment, she asked where God, who granted her everything she possesses, fits into that narrative.
Her written reaction follows recent remarks she made on the podcast Quem é Você Nesse Rolê?, hosted by Thais Fersoza. During the interview, Meneghel reflected on her relationship with God and reviewed key moments from her life and career.
Podcast discussion on faith and career
Speaking on the podcast, Meneghel questioned why commentators repeatedly attribute her life achievements to the devil. She explained that whenever she hears claims about a satanic pact, she wonders why people believe the devil holds enough power to grant everything she owns, arguing that such theories take power away from God.
Meneghel stated that her career trajectory would have been entirely impossible without faith. She stressed that she could never have accomplished what she achieved or experienced what she lived, both in Brazil and across foreign countries, without divine backing.
The presenter affirmed her belief that a superior force guided her life. She stated that a supreme power greater than any human must exist, adding that while people may use different names according to their religious beliefs, they should acknowledge that such power comes from a superior realm.
Meneghel explicitly denied entering into any arrangement with evil forces, stating that she does not have a pact and never could. She concluded that someone blessed with everything she received does not have that possibility, remarking that if sceptics do not wish to believe she is favoured by God, they should allow her to believe it.
