Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz has publicly thanked his fans after his surprise single Yo Era Poesía reached number one following its release last Friday.
The Madrid-born artist posted a reflection on Instagram over the weekend after listeners had time to internalise the track, while also sharing behind-the-scenes footage from the filming of the music video.

Sanz stated on social media that it was a beautiful feeling to see everyone continuing to champion poetry together, whether written, sung, or used to express personal emotions. Musically, the ballad recalls the early sound of his career.
The track features a collaboration with Mexican artist Eden Muñoz. Sanz explained that clicking through his Instagram video carousel shows clips of the recording session with Muñoz, thanking him for joining the project and noting that talent, affection, and laughter made the work flow easily.
Sanz also expressed gratitude to the behind-the-scenes production team for managing every detail. He concluded his message by thanking his listeners for sharing the track and making room for poetry in their lives.
Inspiration and Collaborative Work
Upon launching the song across all music platforms, Sanz shared the inspiration behind the composition. He explained that while some songs start from a melody, others come from deep admiration, placing Yo Era Poesía in the latter group.
He described the track as a personal tribute to Spanish Romantic poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. Sanz noted that Bécquer had accompanied him throughout his life due to the poet's understanding of love, beauty, and nostalgia.
Highlighting the partnership with Muñoz, Sanz described sharing the song as a gift and praised the Mexican singer's voice and sensitivity, thanking him for putting his heart into the recording. Sanz added that he hoped listeners would find something of their own within the music.
Background of the Spanish Pop Icon
Alejandro Sanz, born in Madrid, is one of Spain's most successful musical exports, known globally for his romantic ballads and flamenco-infused pop music over a career spanning more than three decades. Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer was a 19th-century Spanish Romantic poet whose verses remain central to Spanish literary history, while Eden Muñoz is a prominent Mexican singer, songwriter, and producer in regional Mexican music.
Current Tour Break and Future Dates
The release of Yo Era Poesía coincides with a planned summer break in Sanz's concert schedule. He recently completed the Spanish leg of his tour, titled ¿Y ahora qué?
The tour has also completed an initial leg across the Americas and will resume with a new selection of concert dates starting in October. Sanz is using the summer interval to rest and spend time with his four children.
