If today you offer a schoolgirl or student to powder herself with a product from the Soviet era, she will surely be amazed not only by the degree of coverage, but also by the smell of the powder. Indeed, most modern powders have a light texture with an almost invisible effect. No less delicate and the smell of such products. And most of the time, it doesn’t exist at all.

So why did the Soviet powders have such a strong aroma? There is a version that with the help of the fragrance component, plants could mask the unpleasant smell of certain ingredients. However, in reality, everything is much more prosaic: it’s just that perfumes and cosmetics in the USSR were produced in the same factories.

At the heart of absolutely all products, identical fragrances were used – both to save money and for ease of use.

In the Soviet Union, there were 4 types of powder: the highest, A (good quality), B (medium) and C (mass). The texture of the product and the comfort of use depended on this classification. And it was by the smell of the powder that one could understand how expensive and high-quality it was. Powders of the “highest” and “A” types had fragrances with hints of “Red Moscow”, “Hellas” and other luxurious fragrances. And those that were simpler smelled of lilac and silver lily of the valley.
