Want to know how to keep your nails flawless for a long time? Experts believe that just one nuance can change the rules of the game.
It doesn’t matter if you paint your nails at home or the master does it in the salon – there is nothing better than a fresh manicure. But sometimes it seems like the polish is laughing at you and peeling off immediately after it dries.
Do you recognize the situation? If so, then we have good news for you: nail stylists know a way to extend the life of the coating. This is the nuance that they believe is of fundamental importance.
The easiest way to extend the life of a manicure
The best way to save a new nail design is surprisingly simple – you don’t need expensive products or professional help. Instead, just make sure your nails are dry before applying polish.
According to the famous manicurist Julie Kandalek, the nail plate looks hard, but at the same time it has a porous structure and is able to absorb water like a sponge. After soaking, explains Julie, the nail takes an hour to dry.
“Dipping” Julie calls “old school”. According to her, in the case of water procedures, the master applies varnish to a wet nail – the plate will dry out and return to its natural shape, but the coating is not able to “shrink”, and therefore, splinters appear on it very quickly.

What to do? It’s simple: if you’re doing a manicure at home, apply polish an hour after bathing your hands. At the salon, Judy recommends asking the manicurist not to use water, oils and cuticle removers.
She’s backed by nail salon chain founder Rachel Apfel Glass, who believes that dry manicures extend the life of the coating, regardless of the type of polish used. She advises to agree in advance on the absence of soaking: according to Glass, a good master is quite capable of rendering such a service.
