2 mistakes when applying perfume: don’t make them if you want the perfume to last all day!

Some of us prefer wrists, some prefer neck, others prefer cloud… What are we talking about?

Well, we admit it, we are not very good at inventing puzzles. You probably guessed that the answer is perfume and how to apply it: every woman has her favorite.

However, experts believe that many of us make the same mistakes when using perfume – these are the two, in their opinion, the most common.

Mistake #1: Rubbing your wrists together

According to make-up artist and creator of her own perfume brand Rosie Johnston, this is the main taboo when applying perfume. In fact, the friction kills part of the composition of the perfume: “The top notes burn instantly because of it”, explains the expert.

This layer is already the lightest and “fastest” – it is the part of the perfume that disappears the fastest, and rubbing only accelerates this process. “This technique only helps the spirits lose their power,” says Kat Chen, the creator of her own perfume brand.

Do you rub your wrists when you wear perfume?

Yes

No

Why does everyone do this all the time? Johnston thinks it was instinctive at first: people wanted to get rid of the ‘wetness’ on one wrist, and they rubbed it on the second – it’s easier than reaching for another Part of the body. Over time, everyone believed that such a movement helps the spirits to “absorb” into the skin, although in fact everything is going the other way.

What can replace this gesture? Johnston recommends gently tapping the wrists together. Also, according to her, you can hold one hand over the other, as if “smearing” the perfume.

Mistake #2: Not moisturizing your skin

According to experts, if you do not moisturize your skin, the smell of perfume will disappear almost completely within an hour. As Johnston explains, dry dermis is a poor canvas for fragrance because it doesn’t contain natural oils to help fragrance linger.

Rousey advises immediately after a shower to apply moisturizer to the body to retain and increase the moisture that has been absorbed by the skin, and only then to put on perfume. In case you need to refresh your perfume in the middle of the day, Kat recommends applying hand cream to your wrists first and only then spraying perfume on them.
