Ukrainian serviceman Dmytro Babchuk, the fiancé of television presenter Lesia Nikitiuk, has confirmed that he is continuing his recovery following surgery on a leg injury sustained over a month ago.
Speaking directly to his followers in an Instagram question and answer session, Babchuk explained that he intends to return to active military duties as soon as he is able to walk normally again.
News agency UNIAN previously reported that Babchuk was admitted to hospital with a leg injury and subsequently underwent a surgical operation. No further details regarding how the injury occurred have been made public. Updating supporters on his daily life, the soldier noted that he is currently spending his time on fatherhood alongside his medical rehabilitation, sharing a new photograph with his young son Oscar, who celebrated his first birthday during the summer.
Military service and advice to youth
Babchuk has served in the Ukrainian military for several years, having joined a marine reconnaissance platoon in 2016. As part of the Ukrainian Naval Infantry, marine units perform specialized reconnaissance, amphibious landing, and combat operations in defense of the country.
When asked by a social media subscriber to share advice for the younger generation, Babchuk urged young Ukrainians not to try to imitate other people. Instead, he advised them to focus on personal growth, study military tactics, combat medicine, and weapons training, and join the armed forces so they will not feel ashamed when they grow old.
His partner, Lesia Nikitiuk, is one of Ukraine's best-known television personalities, widely recognized for hosting popular travel shows and entertainment broadcasts. Her career in Ukrainian television has made her a household name across the country.
Babchuk reiterated that his primary focus remains on regaining his strength and mobility, adding that his military responsibilities will not perform themselves while he is recovering.
