The director revealed the reasons behind the cancellation of the one who would be considered his last project and that would be about a film critic

Tarantino Quentin (pulp Fiction), one of Hollywood’s most celebrated filmmakers, spoke for the first time about the decision to discard The Movie Criticconsidered until then the one that would be your last movie. The project, originally planned as a series of eight episodes for TV, then rewritten as a feature film, ended up not leaving the paper.

“The eight -episode series was The Movie Critic,” explained Tarantinedetailing that the initial idea was adapted to cinema before facing problems in pre-production.

The conceptual challenge

Unlike its previous films, marked by revenge, action and stylized violence, The Movie Critic would focus on a profession that the director himself described as “the most boring in the world”: film critic.

“Every Tarantino movie promises so much except The Movie Critic. Who wants to see a movie about a movie critic? I was excited about this script, but when we reached pre-production, I was not excited to dramatize everything I wrote”told the podcast The Church of Tarantino.

Tarantine He assured that the decision was not motivated by fear or insecurity, but for conceptual reasons: transforming the life of a critical into something captivating proved more challenging than expected.

A cast that did not come to fruition

The film, set in 1977 and based on a real film critic, was in negotiations to have Tom Cruise as a protagonist. Despite the promising cast, Tarantine He chose to end the project, reaffirming his goal of completing the career of director “with a crash”.

With this, the filmmaker confirms that his last work will still be something bolder, consistent with the legacy he built over decades, leaving The Movie Critic as an intriguing idea that will never be filmed.
