Singer who released one of the biggest albums of 2024 does not hide the influence of the British night scene on her sound
Responsible for offering one of the biggest releases of 2024 — the album Brat —, Charli XCX does not deny its electronic music influences. The artist even mentions a name from the genre that moves her to this day, especially through a live album.
The subject was addressed during an interview with the channel WSJ Style (via Music Radar) about London’s underground scene. On the occasion, the Englishwoman explained how the genre influenced her and also highlighted a TV series as part of this ecosystem in her adolescence.
She said:
I was so inspired by nightlife when I was younger because it was so uplifting and refreshing. Where my friends and I grew up, we weren’t really ‘in’ that culture. We weren’t experiencing the nightlife in London. We were just watching (the series) Skins. So going to raves and parties and stuff like that really influenced me.”
As a major example of electronic sound, Charlie pointed out the Daft Punk. When citing her favorite work by the duo, the singer was confused about the place where it was recorded — in Paris, and not at the Coachella festival —, but it is Alive 2007 (2007), their second live album.
The artist stated:
I was playing the album live Daft Punkthe Coachella one, and that album makes me shed tears. It makes me emotional, because I think: ‘wow, imagine being there in that crowd, listening to one of the greatest bands of all time, in this giant collective experience’. It’s a very emotional kind of place (for me).”

About Daft Punk
Formed in France in 1993, the Daft Punk was composed of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. Both always appeared with helmets and costumes that showed them as futuristic robots. The sound fused different subgenres of electronic music, disco music and other styles, even rock depending on the moment.
The discography has four studio albums: Homework (1997), Discovery (2001), Human After All (2005) and Random Access Memories (2013). They also released two live albums: Alive 1997 (2001) and Alive 2007 (2007), the favorite of Charli XCX.
The activities were officially closed in 2021. The reasons, according to Thomas Bangalter (via website Igor Miranda), include not only the difficulty of the creative process, but also a certain discouragement due to the popularization of artificial intelligence and the influence this may have on music in the near future.
