Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton was treated for an overdose and physical injuries following a self-harm livestream at his Miami home, a police report reveals.
First responders with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue treated the 48-year-old entertainment writer for multiple injuries and an overdose before transporting him to the hospital on August 4, according to an incident report from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office obtained by People.
The official report does not specify what Hilton purportedly overdosed on or provide details regarding his treatment. Police were called to his Miami residence after emergency calls reported a possible suicide attempt broadcast during a TikTok livestream.
Footage from the online stream appeared to show Hilton smeared with blood after seemingly taking a knife to himself. Police confirmed that Hilton's sister, Barbara Lavandeira, 42, his three children, Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8, and his niece were at the home during the events leading up to the incident.
Police Report and Bathroom Discovery
According to the incident report reviewed by People, Barbara told officers on the scene that her brother was suicidal prior to the livestream and that the family had helped him obtain treatment the week prior to the incident.
Recalling the afternoon of August 4 to Page Six, Barbara said Hilton was in his bedroom with the door closed and locked, which was unusual for him because his door was almost always kept open. When she knocked, he said he was fine, but his voice was very faint, and he soon stopped responding.
After calling his cellphone without success, Barbara unlocked his bedroom door and realized he was inside the locked bathroom. She knocked several more times and warned that she would enter if he did not open up. When he failed to answer, she unlocked the bathroom door.
Upon entering the bathroom, Barbara was confronted with the sight of her brother standing in front of the shower, naked, cut up, covered in blood, with a box cutter in his hand. She noted that he appeared to have already ended the TikTok livestream before she reached the bathroom.
Reflecting on the encounter, Barbara said her nightmare became a reality. She explained that she did not recognize her brother when she looked at him, saying his eyes did not look the same. A split second later he smiled at her, making her feel as though she was staring at someone else.
Evacuation of Children and Window Incident
Determined to protect the children, Barbara grabbed her car keys and instructed them to run to her parked vehicle outside. Their mother, Teresita Lavandeira, was not at home at the time, allowing Barbara to quickly evacuate the family from the residence.
While on the phone with 911 dispatchers from inside the vehicle, Barbara messaged her best friend living nearby, asking her to come pick up the children and take them away from the scene.
The police report alleges that a naked and blood-covered Hilton then emerged from the house and began banging on the driver's side window of the vehicle while Barbara and the children were inside.
Hilton subsequently returned inside the house and locked himself in. Responding police officers established a perimeter around the property before law enforcement personnel and several of Hilton's family members gained entry and brought him into the living room.
Emergency Medical Care and Hospitalization
Barbara, who was visiting her brother from California, returned inside the house and attempted to staunch his bleeding with towels while awaiting the ambulance. She noted that despite having lost a significant amount of blood, Hilton was still able to speak in a very faint voice.
Paramedics transported Hilton to the hospital by ambulance, while Barbara stayed behind to speak with an arriving crisis team. She later stated that August 4 will forever be one of the darkest days her family has ever experienced.
Over the weekend, Hilton's team confirmed he remains hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act, officially known as the Florida Mental Health Act. The law permits medical providers, mental health professionals, judges, and law enforcement officers to involuntarily commit individuals for up to 72 hours if they are believed to be at risk of harming themselves or others.
Hilton's representatives stated that he suffered significant blood loss and unspecified additional injuries during the self-harm episode. They confirmed he will require surgery in the coming days to treat his injuries and described his condition as serious but stable, adding that his treatment and recovery will be a long process.
Custody Petition and Media Background
Because of the requirements of his facility and the Baker Act, Hilton's team emphasized that his communication is extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and key individuals directly involved in his care.
On August 7, three days after Hilton was hospitalized, his mother, Teresita Lavandeira, submitted a petition in a Miami family court to temporarily assume custody of his three children, according to public records viewed by the Daily Mail.
The emergency comes after a separate health battle earlier this year. In March 2026, Hilton spent 21 days in the hospital recovering from sepsis, which developed after he suffered an ulcer from taking flu medication on an empty stomach.
