Pilar Torres, wife of Peruvian cumbia group La Bella Luz owner Óscar Custodio, wept as she denied knowing about harassment allegations against former members.
Torres spoke at a press conference organized by La Bella Luz to address accusations of harassment and workplace abuse surrounding the musical group. Standing alongside her son, Óscar Junior, known as Senderito, she denied mistreating former members of the band.
The emotional moment occurred when a reporter asked Torres directly about statements made by former singer Héctor Boza. Boza previously told Show.pe that he suffered workplace abuse, mocking, and humiliation from Torres, Óscar Junior, an announcer, and another group member during his tenure with the orchestra.
Workplace abuse allegations
Boza said that when he spoke with Óscar Custodio about leaving the group, Custodio requested that he not post a public statement. Boza said he felt obligated to inform his fans about his departure, adding that he was subjected to mocking behavior like many other former members.
Torres broke down in tears while being comforted by her son as she denied acting hostily toward Boza. She said she had only just learned about his claims because she does not check social media, and she swore on her children that she had never looked at him poorly, adding that current members could attest to her character.
Harassment chat claims
Torres also addressed chat records presented by former member Claudia Salazar regarding alleged harassment by former musical director César Sánchez Chavesta. Torres denied having any prior knowledge of the situation.
She swore on her children that Salazar had never informed her about the alleged harassment. Torres added that she asked her husband if Salazar had reported anything to him, and he stated that she had not.
