"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has overtaken "Toy Story 5" to become the highest-grossing film of 2026, according to Variety. The film earned $1.155 billion in its first seven days of release, while "Toy Story 5" took several months to reach $1.067 billion.
The Marvel and Sony release crossed $1 billion in just six days. Only "Avengers: Endgame," which made $1.2 billion in three days, reached that mark faster.
Second weekend earnings
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" kept pulling in money as its second weekend began. On Friday it earned $43 million in North America, screening on 4,487 screens. Early estimates put the full weekend total near $143 million, about 60% below the record $360 million it made on its opening weekend. If that forecast holds, the film's North American total after its second weekend would reach roughly $653 million.
Rest of the box office
Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" placed second on Friday, taking in $8.8 million in its fourth weekend, with a projected weekend total of about $30.5 million and a North American running total nearing $460 million. The romantic comedy "One Night Only," starring Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro, earned $2.8 million on Friday across 3,012 theaters and is expected to reach about $6 million for the weekend.
"Super Troopers 3," the third installment in the Broken Lizard comedy franchise, took fourth place with $1.7 million from 2,760 theaters and a projected weekend total of $3.9 million. Eli Roth's horror film "Ice Cream Man" ranked eighth, earning $1 million on Friday from 1,090 theaters, with a projected weekend total of about $2.1 million.
"Toy Story 5," which lost the top spot to "Spider-Man," fell to fifth place. In its eighth weekend, it earned $1.15 million on Friday, with a North American running total that could reach $470.5 million after the weekend.
