Peruvian media personality Víctor Angobaldo died at age 63 on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, after a traffic accident in Cañete.
The former partner of Shirley Cherres was traveling with other passengers when the vehicle suffered an incident on the Panamericana Sur. According to local outlet Buenos Días Cañete, the vehicle rolled over several times near kilometer 128 in the district of Cerro Azul.
News portal Callao Chalaco reported that Angobaldo arrived without vital signs at Hospital Regional Rezzola. The driver of the vehicle sustained severe injuries in the crash.
Reaction from the entertainment industry
Former Risas y Salsa cast member Patricia Alquinta confirmed Angobaldo's death during an appearance on the show Eso Háblalo. A visibly moved Alquinta said national show business was in mourning and described the loss as a major blow to the entertainment industry.
Alquinta offered condolences to Angobaldo's family and expressed sympathy for Javier Soriano, whom she described as being like a brother to Angobaldo. She mentioned plans to join Soriano later to accompany him, recalled television host Magaly Medina once remarking that she had created that monster, and remembered Angobaldo by his affectionate nicknames, El Chocolatito and Angobaldito.
Rise to television fame
Angobaldo first gained widespread public attention in 2009 on Magaly Medina's television show following an ampay with Shirley Cherres. Producer Ney Guerrero had previously encountered him during a visit to a prison, where Angobaldo was delivering food to inmates and spending time with them, leading to his nickname El Chocolatito.
Known for his charisma and spontaneity, Angobaldo made frequent media appearances, including a live television marriage proposal to Cherres and public clashes with figures such as Efraín Aguilar and Melcochita. Outside of television, he worked as a businessman and show promoter, owned a nightclub, and served as public relations manager at a yogurt factory.
