After The CW turns down the series, Warner officially cancels it
Warner Bros. TV. officially discards the ‘Powerpuff’ series, live-action from The Powerpuff Girlss after it is rejected by The CWaccording to journalist Matt Webb Mitovichvia TVLine.
Initially, the series would approach the three characters as young adults in their 20s who felt ‘out of place’ for having spent their entire childhoods fighting crimes.
The CEO of The CW, Mark Pedowitz, revealed at a press conference the ComicBookReason for turning down the series:
“The reason we do pilots is because sometimes things go wrong – and this was the case. We believe in the cast completely. We believe in Diablo [Cody] and heather [Regnier], the screenwriters. We believe in the auguries of Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros. TV”. said Mark.
And completed: “In this case, the pilot didn’t work. Because we didn’t have enough elements there, we wanted to give it another chance. So we didn’t want to move on with what we had. Tone-wise, it sounded pretty cheesy. It didn’t seem grounded in reality. But then again, we only learn things when we test. In this case, we thought we’d take a step back and head back to the crafting room.”.
The series would star Chloe Bennett (‘Agents of SHIELD’), Dove Cameron (‘Descendants’) and Yana Perrault in the papers of Blossom, Cutie and Buttercup.
